Olympic Gold Medalist to Join Slingshot Racing Cup
In 2014, Kaitlyn Lawes was standing on the top step of the Olympic podium after winning a gold medal for Canada in curling with Team Jennifer Jones. Tomorrow, Lawes will tackle a new challenge as she joins participants competing in the Slingshot Racing Cup. The Slingshot Racing Cup is the world's first ever championship featuring Polaris' unique 3-wheeled roadster called the Slingshot and it is sponsored by S.A.R. Sport and Recreation in Steinbach and Richert Racing. After it's successful debut race day in early June, Rounds 3 & 4 are set to take place tomorrow (Wednesday, June 28th) at Gimli Motorsport Park in Gimli, Manitoba. Lawes is excited to tackle the new challenge, "I'm really looking forward to this unique opportunity, it's not every day you get the chance to drive a vehicle like the Slingshot and to do it on a race track will be very cool." Richert describes that it was a natural fit to have Lawes join the Slingshot Racing Cup for an event as both are sponsored by GORP, an all natural energy bar hand-rolled on a farm in Manitoba. "We've got a nice big GORP logo on the front of Kaitlyn's Slingshot for tomorrow and I think it's going to be a lot of fun introducing her to the world of racing. There's a lot for her to learn but I think she's got what it takes to be successful and will really enjoy herself. Thanks to GORP for helping to pull everything together." Tomorrow's race day begins rain or shine at 10am with Practice sessions 1 & 2 in the morning followed by the first race in early afternoon.
